The lather on Shampoo Bars!

Feb 6, 2019

Our FABULOUS Solid Shampoo is here!

Good lather! The key to good advertising is remembering to incude your product in the photo! I forgot 🙁

If I’m going to look for ways to reduce plastic in my skin care range yet still make premium products, the invention of solid shampoo has to be number one on my list.I have to admit, until I made my own I had never tried them. I’m converted!! These concentrated blocks last for ages which makes them so economical. The first thing I noticed when sliding it over wet hair, is how little is needed to get a good foam. I literally rubbed it across my short hair 3 or 4 times and it was too much! One thing I noticed about some sulfate free liquid shampoo’s is the ‘draggy’ feeling it gives when rubbing through hair. Not with this one! It glides through hair, is easy to wash out, leaves no residue and hair is squeaky clean once rinsed.

So, what is a Shampoo Bar and how does it work? Firstly I want to explain the difference between regular ‘natural’ soap and shampoo.

I’ve trawled the Internet for a while now, looking at what various skin care companies claim a ‘shampoo bar’ is. There seem to be two varieties.

  1. Cold Process method (soap) –  using various oils such as olive, castor, palm etc. This is ‘soap’ and should not be used on hair! The Ph is way too high, and because it raises the follicle of the hair cuticle, hair can be lank, dull, greasy looking and even damaged. I’ve tried these myself, and if you’re after shiny, tangle free, flowing and healthy locks, stay well clear! This type of soap is great for skin.
  2. Surfactant method (shampoo) –  hair loving and the method I use! They’re not as cheap to buy as soap, but do the trick and last for ages. When reading ingredients labels, were looking for a product containing surfactants. The odd lovely vegetable or nut oil in there is great…but there must be a surfactant. Ph can be balanced to 5.5-6.5 and the use of mild surfactants alongside emollients and moisturisers ensures a perfect blend. A good shampoo will flatten cells of the cuticle and protect base layers from damage. The result should be clean, manageable and glossy hair.

When I decide to make a new product, I turn into a frantic online live wire; squirelling about on the lap top and stowing away ideas. I don’t rush into getting it done and on the shelves, but I am focussed on getting a good product to my customers. I love coming up with natural skin care products that people talk about and come back for. It’s what I do.

My shampoo bars are available in 75-80g blocks. As a guide to how long they will last, my short hair used less than 1g per wash!! Available in Lavender & Geranium/Peppermint & Tea Tree/Grapefruit & Neroli. These are the amazing benefits:

Eco-friendly – Sulfate-free – Argan Oil & Cocoa Butter to keep hair soft and shiny – Organic Virgin Coconut Oil – D Panthenol (hair food)! – Scented with pure essential oils – Glides though hair – Travel friendly – No residue – Vegan

I’ve never been a believer in fate or karma. If I was to draw life, it would look like the lines of a heartbeat on a cardiograph. We plug our hearts in each day, and the highs and lows it follows on paper are what we experience in real life. We are our own heart beats. Sometimes life is high and sometimes it is low. That’s it….to me there is no deeper meaning.

Dog friendly accommodation in Derbyshire

Shortly after I started making natural skin care products for a living (a hefty 15 years ago), I was selling at my local farmer’s market and got chatting to Steve Ogan, owner of Blakelow Farm Holiday Cottages, Winster. Even though he doesn’t offer dog friendly holidays, I will share the link to his website, purely because I feel you must see his fantastic cottages. Steve was after guest soaps for his rooms and wondered if I could help. Sure, I could!

Gift’s For Mother’s Day – March 11th 2018

For the last two months, we have had our share of winter weather in the Peak District. I haven't fallen over this time - unusual for me as I'm a clutz. We still have snow on the ground so there's time. My lovely open fire is constantly snaking flames up the chimney...

They sound good as my scalp seems more sensitive than it used to be and I did get Folliculitis a few months ago.
