Gift’s For Mother’s Day – March 11th 2018

Feb 16, 2018

For the last two months, we have had our share of winter weather in the Peak District. I haven’t fallen over this time – unusual for me as I’m a clutz. We still have snow on the ground so there’s time. My lovely open fire is constantly snaking flames up the chimney and the local coal man is very happy! Covered in coal dust….but happy 😉

To me, Mother’s Day brings welcome sunshine and warmth.  With so many talented creatives out there, it’s not difficult to find something unique for this special day. I’m not a big fan of having my calendar tell me when I should show someone I love them, BUT it does mean we can enjoy the gift of giving. After all…most of us enjoy putting a smile on someone else’s face.

I’ve chosen 6 of my favourite small businesses who have put their efforts into making something beautiful for Mother’s Day.

A gift for dog lovers…cake bakers….and budding chefs!

This gorgeous apron, made by Anita, is made from 100% cotton and has an adjustable neck strap.A lovely treat for somebody who spends a lot of time in the kitchen. I’m guessing it can be used in many ‘home’ situations where the lady of the house needs to protect her clothes. I’m sure this would be loved in many households across the UK ♥

Here it is, at the great price of £16.50 (plus postage) https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/578588338/dog-print-apron-full-cotton-apron-unisex

Felt hanging love hearts

This gorgeous set of 4 decorations are lovely for someone who likes adding small touches to their home. Hand stitched with love! They would look beautiful hung on a door handle, window catch or on a wooden beam.

This is definitely something my Mum would like, though I don’t know where she would hang one as she has so many handmade gifts from me!

TwiddleMuff

This one is my absolute favourite! Made from yarn, by Crafty Friends UK, in the Peak District. Especially designed for people with Dementia and Alzheimers, these keep hands warm and have ribbons and buttons attached to provide visual, tactile and sensory stimulation. Having worked with people with dementia, I would highly recommend something like this to help distract and comfort somebody who feels confused.

Available here for £10 (plus postage) https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/578861364/twiddlemuff?ref=shop_home_active_7

Childhood Bullying

I’ve never been a believer in fate or karma. If I was to draw life, it would look like the lines of a heartbeat on a cardiograph. We plug our hearts in each day, and the highs and lows it follows on paper are what we experience in real life. We are our own heart beats. Sometimes life is high and sometimes it is low. That’s it….to me there is no deeper meaning.

The lather on Shampoo Bars!

If I’m going to look for ways to reduce plastic in my skin care range yet still make premium products, the invention of solid shampoo has to be number one on my list.I have to admit, until I made my own I had never tried them. I’m converted!! These concentrated blocks last for ages which makes them so economical.

Dog friendly accommodation in Derbyshire

Dog friendly accommodation in Derbyshire

Shortly after I started making natural skin care products for a living (a hefty 15 years ago), I was selling at my local farmer’s market and got chatting to Steve Ogan, owner of Blakelow Farm Holiday Cottages, Winster. Even though he doesn’t offer dog friendly holidays, I will share the link to his website, purely because I feel you must see his fantastic cottages. Steve was after guest soaps for his rooms and wondered if I could help. Sure, I could!
